(2003) Directed by Vadim Perelman Just because this film is nearly perfect doesn’t mean I’m not going to say “Fuck this movie and it’s total bullshit needlessly depressing ending”. |

Couldn’t agree with you more. An exquisitely made super drag of a movie. Another nearly perfect movie which should have been a complete bummer is Drugstore Cowboy but Van Sant’s expert direction somehow left me delighted as I left the theater. The MOST perfect movie out right now is Doubt. I say perfect because its not one word too long or one word too short. Scripts that good can only be achieved through the refiner’s fire of presenting it as a play over and over again prior to putting in on film. Every prop strike, every line, every movement, every shot – flawless.
Just because it’s sad, and dark doesn’t mean it didn’t need to be that. For all that broke me about that movie, I admittedly can’t get it out of my head. This is art, baby. I know you feel the same way, Courtney, but I get your point too. It’s so brutal. So damn brutal. Drags you through the mud, and leaves you there.
Must see Doubt, so I can thank aliensaver for his review.
Gotta like the eclectic mix of flix Courtney views and reviews. Ain’t seen Casa De Arena Y Niebla, but how bout’ that Ben Kingsley. For a guy who got famous wearing a sheet while his stomach growled, he sure can pull gigs with hot co-stars. I recommend “Elegy” because, not only is it depressing, but Penelope Cruz has several scenes that show a side(s) of her I had always been waiting to see.
Hey Courtney, why don’t you review “The 91′ French flick, “The Hairdressers Husband”? Smart, funny, depressing, and overall very cool.
