I’ve been curious about this movie since it came out. Dang, it sounds sad and depressing. Thanks for the heads up.
I saw this movie last night. Sad and depressing is rather an understatement. Not to mention graphic. There was one scene involving a meat slicer during which I not only had to close my eyes but felt compelled to plug my ears as well. I’m not sure I’ve ever done that during a movie before. It is a moving story, very well acted, and shows a slice (no pun intended) of life I would never know existed.
Go see Wall-E Lany. It is totally cute and uplifting.
Hey….you gave the ending away ! Anyway, Love & Kisses X
Am I the only one who noticed that in the second to the last scene Marisa Tomei used the same line she used in Untamed Heart? Totally ruined it for me. You can’t say “but your heart” to Christian Slater’s dumb character in one movie and then say it again to Micky Rourke in The Wrestler. Boo! Boo on that!
I haven’t seen this movie, but saw Mickey Rourke on Graham Norton (English tv show) and he looked creepy and wrong. Maybe it’s just because I’ve never liked him but seeing him with that meaty, puffed up body and long hair… i just couldn’t stand watching a whole film of it.
dI want to add that even though I made that complaint. I actually like the movie overall and thought Mickey was great as a washed up wrestler. The intense graphic shit would keep me from watching it a second time though.
Jennifer, thank you for the advice. The strange thing is that I can handle scary movies where all kinds of people die, but I can’t handle a sad drama. Maybe that’s because there’s more of an in-depth story in dramas. Maybe I will go see Wall-E. All this talk of sad stuff makes me wanna go see something cute and uplifting.
So clever the way this flick shows the whole sex/violence obsession, and how this stripper and this wrestler perform because the people will always be hungry for both.
