For Our Friend Matt Cwiertny
October 8th, 2009This is a photo of Matt Cwiertny, Brent and I.

Matt was an incredibly sweet person and a huge fan of our music. I’m so glad that Brent and I had the chance to meet and get to know him a littlebefore he lost his battle with T Cell Lymphoma(TCL). The last time I saw him was in June, we had dinner in Pomona, CA before our show at the Glass House. He was cheerful, friendly and so brave. It’s hard to meet someone so cool and know how hard they’re fighting for their life.

He will me missed. Rest easy Matt, no more suffering for you.

a conversation with you ! jumping mouse but God bless you !
that’s very moving, Zia. I don’t know what to say … maybe because there’s nothing to say. I am sorry about what happened. We didn’t know him but I whish him to rest in peace. What you did Brent and you should have been very important for him. What you did for him was beautiful. Remarkable.
All my thoughs to you and much love during those sad moments.
He was surrounded by friends and loved ones – not much better testament than having so many caring people easing your transition from this life to the next. I’m happy for him that you both were able to touch his life, just as I’m happy for you both that he touched yours. Rest in peace, Matt – you’ll not be forgotten soon.
It is touching, Zia, that you and Brent were able to spend some quality time with Matt in his last days on this earth. I’ve lost 3 family members within the past 4 yrs. to cancer. When it was my grandfather, it hit me pretty hard because I was with him when he passed away. It was the hardest thing I’ve ever had to witness. As sad as it was, I felt bad that there was nothing I could do to save him….only say “goodbye”. I was glad that he wasn’t alone though in his last moments and know that he is no longer suffeing and he is in a better place now. Rest in peace grandpa and Matt. God bless. Hang in there Zia and Brent. All of us, your fans, support you in your time of grieving and thank you for sharing this touching story and reminding us that sometimes we need to step back and take the time to appreciate our lives and everyone in them. I’m sure that Matt’s memory wil live on through you both and everyone he knew and loved. Good memories never die.
i am really sorry , this has remembered me a friend of in middle school whom has suffered but i am happy for Matt to be more peaceful and eventhough
Matt was a positive person even when times where tough. He was my brother and a friend and I am greatfull he was able to meet you guys.
I checked out your site to find out concert dates and saw your tribute to Matt. I attended a funeral today for a friend who died of cancer also….The coincidence is eerie.
Lany, Sarahn watching readin agin so so moving photos a
sorry i’m so moved watching reading all these, yes Lany reminds for me too… Zia Brent .. you’re beautiful.
An example to us all!! That’s how we should all be rollin’!!
thats very right and true what you Lany, really. and thats all what we can say. Beautiful. i wanna add something but Lany said everything which must be said.
Brent, zia, you got a very big sense of humanity and sensibility, that’s rare. Thank you for charing a so intimist and moving story, that means a lot for us, for everybody and especially I think that sould have meant very very a lot for Matt … and we are here, behind you, during this hard time.
it’s so movong that i’m losing my english too
To Michael Morris… I am so sorry for your loss. In the pictures, Matt does look like he was a very positive person and I’m glad he was able to meet the Dandies and that he was still able to smile. He sounds very brave. I admire him for that because I know I could probably never be as brave as he was. That kind of strength should be recognized because it takes a special kind of person. I only hope that here soon we can finally discover the cure for cancer so that none of us ever have to endure the loss of a loved one to it ever again. Respectfully, Lany
….having lost family members and friends to cancer myself, does anybody know which is the best organization to donate $ to for the cure? I suppose I should have been researching this, but I don’t know which is the most trusted one out there.
you better look on World Health Organization. I’m sure you’ll find an organization to donate and the WHO must be trustfull.
If you’d like to donate to a cause that is close to Matt’s family and friends, there are two:
The Histiocytosis Association of America (www.histio.org)
or The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (www.lls.org)
RIP Matt, I’ll always cherish my memories of you.
the openness and joy in his expression really tugs at one. Rest well Matt
Lany, you’re the sweetest person i’ve met through the Dandys… although it’s painful Matt is gone to heaven , i pray for him , he looks so gentle….
Brent and Zia beautiful you..
i can’t help thinking.. what you did for your friend is so great .. when people leave how not regret not to have done or said this or that … you did the best… and this friend who is called Nadia, i work with she’s 34 and has “sclerose en plaques” i will never be nice enough to her… i will do more ..owing to you.. voilà c’est tout.. meci je vous aime.
that’s a lesson of life. life is beautiful and is the most precious thing in the whole world. we have to enjoy it with people we love and stop complaining about stupid things … people are dying of horrible illness.
Matt seems so brave, strong and happy to live. That’s very rare and I kinda admire him.

He is a wonderful wonderful person and I’m glad to see such great responses. Truthfully I do not know your music, but I promise to give it a try cause if Matt loved you guys, I’m sure I will too.
