PROFILE: Music the way The Dandy Warhols like it
September 24th, 2009Zia wanted you to see this profile on ESPN.com
Sound check is over for The Dandy Warhols. The band has dispersed to the grassy courtyard next to the bar where they’ll be playing tonight and Zia McCabe — keyboardist, percussionist and organizational brains for the Dandy Warhols — takes a bag of rough-hewn tobacco out of her purse and rolls a cigarette as her 5-year-old daughter Matilda runs by in pigtails and a black dress. McCabe shakes her head and takes a sip of her beer as she wishes aloud that her daughter will steer clear of the bartenders who work at the venue; she’s heard the women in question cursing violently while discussing their reveling ways and wants Matilda nowhere near them.

I liked this article. It described nicely what I admire about The Dandy Warhols as musicians and human beings. And while I too am baffled by the lack of awareness Americans have of TDW, it probably means a more normal private life at home for them, and it certainly is a delight for me to have my favorite band playing in a small local venue. Bliss! Hoping for a show in Portland SOON guys!
I enjoyed reading this article from the beginning to the end. i really liked it. That’s the way i like to heard and read about the Dandy Warhols. Great job.
Very very cool article. Aside being in The Replacements, how’d you guys wind up in ESPN?
Bonjour Dear all you Beautiful ! so Matilda is 5 years old , she’s so pretty always with mom, i still (as a mother) wonder how Zia manages for school, you are incredibly generous all of you to share this intimate moments with us. Yes, Jennifer ,The Dandy Warhols are to admire as fabulous musicians and human beings.
Love ,
you’re probably the only band that share those kind of moments with their fans and i agree with everybody here to say that you are admire as musicians and human beings. You’re not only making music, that’s more than that.
Truely amazing article. Thank you for sharing it with us. Zia, I roll my own cigarettes too. Except sometimes they end up alittle limp because I can’t always pack them just right. I’ve now resorted to having someone pack them for me.
Why aren’t the Dandies more popular in the USA? It’s simple comrades. The imperial capitalists who smear sugary bands like The Jonas Brothers on your morning toast don’t want you to savor the delicacy that is The Dandy Warhols. Introducing intelligent music like theirs to the masses would foment too large of a following and jeopardize the manipulation of the proliteriat that they do so well. I suggest doing as my militia does, and enjoy the celestial cacauphony that is “Earth To The Dandy Warhols”, we while cleaning every square millimeter of our AK-47′s in preparation for the upcoming revoloution. After all, “Arms Are For Hugging”.
I only hope that we will still be able to excercise our right to bare arms! I totally dig Courtney’s shirt in the “We Used to be Friends” video. We should have him as our president. How awesome would that be?!
Commandante Zero ! i join you to make a huge propaganda for The Dandys to be the first in U.S.A ! send me an adhesion file i sign it right now ! yeah ! i’ve got the appropriate t-shirt to start with ! oh Lany, yes Courtney for President ( scuse me but i want him here too instead of Sarko the guignolo ).
I’ll do all i can with my tiny power but convincing to say : THE DANDY WARHOLS ARE JUST THE GREATEST MINDS ARTISTS BEAUTIFUL HUMANS , don’t miss them, i’ve known it immediately , and forever.
I LOVE YOU
totally agree with but I never saw a group with devoted friendly fans, just because they are true…
they deserve those kind of fans !
