The Dandy Warhols: Barely Legal
January 27th, 2012On this date in 1994, The Dandy Warhols (Courtney Taylor, Peter Holmstrom, Eric Hedford, and someone else) played their first ever show at the world famous X-Ray Cafe in downtown Portland. Whoever that someone else was fired from the band not too long after, and Zia McCabe was recruited to take her place. Four years later, founding member Eric Hedford left the band and was replaced by Courtney’s cousin, Brent DeBoer. This is the entire personnel history of The Dandy Warhols. Questions?

I was 6 years and 2 weeks old on this date in history. I had no idea who The Dandy Warhols were. Exactly 9 years and 50 weeks later I would hear “Bohemian Like You” for the first time (on a mix-cassette tape!) and fall in love.
Tune in next time for “A Piece of History”.

Reminds me of “Colder Than the Coldest Winter Was Cold”
the dandy warhols had progressed
far beyond the traditional jug band sound.
Zia had all but hung up the washtub bass,
in favor of her new invention, which she called the synthesizer.
The banjo was still there but now it was electrified,
to a flat microphone which pete had wound tightly with copper wire and
called his pick-up and in turn made it louder by what fat-head jokingly
called, Pete’s Amp.
Well, the name stuck and by the time such luminaries as Gene Vincent, Elvis
Presley and B.B. King had heard this new Warhols Sound, they were calling it
Rock and Roll.
Dandy frontman Courtney Taylor-Taylor would be quoted as saying, I know it’s
only rock and roll, but i think i like it
I’m Bill Curtis and you’re listening to a piece of history

What about Troy?
Poor Gretchen.
Happy birthday boys and girls and nice to see you all back here
