Drive
February 26th, 2009No matter how many traffic accidents there are (est 31,000 last year in the U.S.) I am amazed at how well our traffic system actually works. It seems to me, considering how kinda absentminded we are as a species, that I should constantly be ducking, bobbing and weaving to avoid these giant clumsy projectiles a lot more than I am every time I get in my car. Now add texting whilst driving. Sheesh.
Actually upon a quick analysis, traffic laws might be the only proof that rules actually work, if they are finite and fairly well policed.
can anyone tell me whether or not it is illegal to make a left turn across a double yellow line? i see an awful lot of stopped traffic in town of people waiting for someone to do this.

At a four way intersection you yield to the right? If I had to actually abide by that law I’d never get anywhere. It’s first come first serve as far as I’m concerned. This is the reason I don’t drive in Oregon anymore. In Chicago, where driving was invented and where I am originally from, the first person to the intersection runs the show (bonus points if you are eating a hot dog). Zia once told me that when she gets in the car it’s her personal time to chill out. I take the train now…
Sorry, but that’s no exactly correct. In Oregon, the first one to arrive at the intersection is the first to go through, after coming to a complete stop. That means that if 4 cars approach the intersection, they proceed in the order they arrived. Check it out with the DMV. I’m a big fan!
Ok, direct from the DMV rules of the road I just downloaded from The State of Oregon, “At any intersection with stop signs in all four directions, it is common courtesy to allow the driver who stops first to go first. If in doubt, yield to the driver on your right. The important thing to remember is to be careful. To avoid the risk of a crash, never insist on the right of way; be a courteous driver.”
What happens when all 4 cars show up at the same time and everyone is to someone’s right?
I never stop — I just lay on the horn and plow through until I get to where I’m going. Why yes, I did learn to drive in California.
I hate to drive. I live in Spain and here it is terrifying, they cause fear, the cars and the drivers. Anyhow it’s worse in other countries as Italy or Portugal.
I go always in bicycle, walking or in public transport. It’s the better thing.
We want to see you for Spain this summer.
I was in Paris in December and could see you in Le-Bataclan. The show was fantastic.
A greeting. Gracias.
(Sorry but my english is very, very bad.)
Your English is awesome.
The video is an hysterical addition combined with the music.
1, could use a share button on this video, itself, rather than having the link go to site/page. that way when shared it shows up directly on FB, etc., just like when posting from youtube…
2, in the denver airport picture, posted 2.19… looks a like a bandaged hand, no ?
Hey duh, the video I “created” (ha) is not hosted on YouTube. It took for god damned ever to just throw it together, I did not want to wait around all night to upload it to YouTube and wait another two hours for them to encode it – just so this blog could go live… so it’s hosted on our site. Maybe I will host it on my YouTube sometime soon.
I love the song that goes with the film! Is that a Taylor-Taylor song? Can someone help me find it?
that’s the creep out, from the dandy warhols come down
I should make you a video of the traffic in front of the high school I work at. In the morning the traffic lines up in all directions and the people who don’t have the right-of-way but who have to turn left to get into school would never be able to get in and the people who have to turn left to get out would never get out except -shockingly- everyone takes turns! and is nice! and it looks choreographed!
This must be the first time in history a rocker has inspired this much debate about traffic ettiquette. Very fitting for the greatest band ever. Theres just not that many firsts anymore.
God I love The Creep Out. I have a special place in my heart for the first and last songs on Dandy albums. When I had a job that paid me money, it only took 4 consecutive listenings to Musee d’Nougat to go to work, and 5 to get home!
Favorite opening track: “Colder Than the Coldest Winter Was Cold”
Favorite closing track: “It’s a Fast Driving Rave-Up with The Dandy Warhols Sixteen Minutes”
Im assuming you mean “Love is the new feel awful” for opening. I mean I like Bill Kurtis, and it is amusing, but it doesnt compare to Dandys music. I dont personally think its possible to open an album any better than Be-in,although I think “The world(come on) is close. To me every record they’ve put out is a masterpiece in its own right, and its impossible to pick and stick with one favorite.
