The Dandy Warhols are playing rock tunes on a damn SHIP at Liverpool Sound City – and you can watch it? Sounds too good to be true! Sound City and Deezer are makin’ it true.

What You Missed, First Week Of February 2010

So I didn’t think about missing three days of actual work when my MacBook was out sick this week. No, I only really thought about what if the Apple people were to find my cache of Johnny Weir fan fiction. But now it’s Friday, my MacBook is home, and it’s time to catch up on things you have missed.

ITEM: Beat The World has a winner in the Guild Guitar contest, and that winner is Pat, from Huntsville, Alabama. Pat wins the Guild GAD-JF3012, like the one Pete played in the “Dreamt of Yes” video. Ten other winners received digital downloads. Which are great, because the computer plays them for you. Thanks to Guild Guitar, Ryan at Beat The World, and our guitar tech Elliott for all the back and forth.

ITEM: Last night I had a dream that Logan Lynn and I were BEST FRIENDS! It was pretty fun. Coincidentally, did I tell you that Logan has covered the Dandys’ 2003 hit “The Last High”? Say what? Yeah, it’s pretty great. You can buy the single at at loganlynnmusic.com.

ITEM: Courtney has a new review of Educating Rita, as well as a couple more flicks, on his movie review page.

Snippets for Friday, Dec 4th

I come to the Oddy today (always a big mistake) and the place is torn up because of some dumb remodeling. Because we live underwater in the Northwest, everything everywhere is damp all the time. That’s great for you skin, but pretty awful for carpets. When we had that flood in the Big Room (!!) it was decided to rip up the carpet in the Grey Room and take care of the water seepage-slash-mold problem there. BORING. Thor is in there right now, hammering something.  So you can see where recording would be prohibited just now. The band is rehearsing, though. Right now.  “Godless.”  The thing I am most displeased about is the coffee today. It is pretty weak.

ITEM. Aren’t you excited about these big Italian Christmas shows? I am! (Not sarcastic!) I will be working during the shows – showing movies with Scotty – but you will need a ticket to get in.   For Seattle, go here, and for the PDX shows, go here.  I really want to see 1776 on the 13th. I just did the art for their new album and I haven’t even seen them play live yet, that’s how dumb I am.

ITEM. A reminder about the Beat The World Guild Guitar Contest. This contest ends January 5th, so you had better go to the BTW site and sign up. Plus, Elliott told me last night that the guitar being given away is the same model Pete is using in the “I Dreamt Of Yes” video. Trivia!

Hey it looks like Beat The World is on fire, just blatantly giving things away now.  Like Logan Lynn parties and free music and guitars and, wait what? Guitars?

Since I’m prone to using my own flowery languange to augment and that usually end up getting us into trouble with contest and whatevers, I’ll copy and paste what Ryan, our label manager, wrote at beattheworld.com:

Beat The World Records is excited to announce that we are partnering with Guild Guitars to offer a dynamite guitar giveaway contest to fans of Beat The World Records and our artists.

The best part is that everyone who enters will receive a Beat The World Records Compilation EP (Digital Format), featuring one song from each of our artists, including The Dandy Warhols, The Upsidedown, Logan Lynn, Spindrift, and 1776!

One (1) grand prize winner will receive a new Guild® GAD-JF3012 acoustic guitar, as featured in the photo. This guitar regularly retails for approximately: $1,799.99 (USD).

Mis Amigos Contest Winner

You will be pleased to know that we have selected the winner of our Mis Amigos Remix Contest – make way for Luc, who will receive a one-time pressing on Acetate of his mix signed by the band.  Nice one, Luc.  We’ve put together a playlist featuring some of our favorite mixes.  Listen below, they’re great.

We didn’t forget the designers – the winner of the cover design will be announced next week.

Mis Amigos Contest Update

Hey, a lot of youse have been asking “what’s the big idea with the Mis Amigos Contest, mis amigos?” We have not forgotten you. Quite frankly, Mr Shankly, we were overwhelmed by the tremendous response. Have you ever been buried under an avalanche of remixes? Sure, it sounds fun, but that’s what killed Shep Pettibone. Anyway, really, thanks for the response, you guys. 

Court, Zia, Pete, and Fatty have been going through all the mixes and it’s super tough to decide winners in a sitch like this, because they are pretty much all supercool. We should wind things down with this soon, though, so you can expect an announcement and a winner shortly.
