Cabaret Vert in France.
Toots is slaying. We’re on next.
Skrillex. Public Enemy just finished. Chuck D watched our gig.
This is the champagne they made for this festival. Or rather the champagne they put their label on. Cabaret Vert. Charleville. Near Rheims and Champagne so somehow this champagne is actually awesome.
(That’s Rimbaud on the label by the way. He was from here.)

Looks like paradise, right? I dove in and it’s so cold I think I got a fugging concussion. Wtf. It’s like a hundred out here so where do they get 4,000 gallons of icewater? And why? Nobody goes in. That’s why I can get a picture of a pool with nobody in it at noon when it’s 100 degrees out.
Oh. There it is. Looks like there’s no need to go outside after all.

España. Driving north from Madrid to the wine country called Ribera del Duero. Had one of their wines last night and it was very good. Not a lot of “character” which I was glad of. More like Bordeaux than Rioja.
So I was just remarking on how much it looks like eastern Oregon on this drive. Except that that when you pass a building it looks like this.

These are my relatives with whom I stay twice a year (only spring and fall because of humidity) and basically just do this. They live outside Jackson Mississippi. A week before tour I noticed that we had a day off in Jackson so of course I had to hook it up. I couldn’t believe that I got to bring most of my closest friends there on tour this year. Crazy. What a day.

Hey look at this. The Dandy Warhols ‘WOW Signal’ Guitar Pedal – $359.00 .
August 15th, 1977: Earth received its first message from the depths of outer space. The Big Ear radio telescope at Ohio State University picked up a strong 72-second signal from the constellation Sagittarius, detected by astronomer Jerry R. Ehman. Circling the frequency code of the signal, 6EQUJ5, on the computer printout Ehman wrote, “WOW!” causing the alien message to become forever known as “The WOW! Signal.”
Two precise values by different astronomers were given for this mysterious frequency, 1420.4556Mhz & 1420.356Mhz. Hydrogen resonates at a frequency of 1420.40575177Mhz, which is near dead center of the two values. Since hydrogen paired with oxygen creates water, the building block for life, this was a meaningful frequency for researchers. Was intelligent life out there trying to communicate with us?
The WOW! Signal was never heard again, despite several searches with a multitude of equipment. At Spaceman, we haven’t given up on extra-terrestrial communication and through much research and development with a group of our country’s greatest stargazers, we have created a way to speak back to our friends in space. Working with a group of research scientists known as The Dandy Warhols, an Alien Fuzz Communicator was born, dubbed The WOW Signal.
This device is like no other we’ve come across. The main signal manipulator utilizes a mix of modern silicon transistors, a vintage Soviet germanium transistor and a custom integrated circuit. This signal can then be modulated in a unique way by a low-frequency oscillator, which can be fine tuned to transmit the desired message to our friends in deep space.
Along with The Dandy Warhols research group, we are introducing a special First Edition of the device to coincide with the release of their new study, “This Machine.” This special edition is electroplated in raw Copper, which will oxidize, giving each enclosure a unique personality over time. It also features a vintage 1959 US Aerospace dimable indicator light, engraved knobs and includes an audio compact disc of the Warhols’ “This Machine” study. Limited to strictly 30 units, this edition is sure to be an exciting piece for the avid astronomy fan, or someone simply looking to reach out to our celestial neighbors in style. To send communications, an external instrument – guitar, bass, or other sonic producing unit – and amplification device must be utilized.
Are you ready to make contact?
Limited to strictly 30 units, the pedal will ship within 6 weeks of ordering and will come with a free copy of ‘This Machine’ featuring ‘The Wow Signal’ signed by the band. The pedals are covered by a 3 year warranty. Returns not accepted.
