Boy’s Life
April 12th, 2010This book is more or less a page-burner version of Lake Wobegon Days.

I wouldn’t mind if this guy just kept writing and writing on this story. I most certainly would read and read, as long as the pages kept coming. It has the languid, lazydays feel of all the greatest “growing up smalltown” novels (ie To Kill A Mockingbird, etc) but with a murder mystery woven in.
This brings up an extremely interesting character in the book who is incidentally a failed writer of just this sort of thing. I’m not going to say more about it cuz I really hope you all find this book and read it. With summer right around the corner I feel that this is “just the thing”.

i enjoyed “Swan Song” a lot. He wrote some really intense books then sort of disappeared. i read Swan Song during a fairly spooky camping trip-you know-i like to scare myself with stories about the sounds or the history of the “filet” family. honored to comment. going to share, OK?
This may just be a book I can relate to. ( the part of a failed writer ) lol. I couldn’t help myself, Courtney. Lately I’ve been taking life’s sour lemons and making sweet lemonade. I’m going back to school this fall. Do you have any recommendations on any good “how to” books which would be useful in an aspiring writer’s journey? As always, thanks, Court, for sharing your reads with us.
