Idiots Rule
June 10th, 2010I called two different places whose numbers were listed in the paper down here “if you would like to volunteer”.
The first one said they didn’t have anything for me and told me to ask local people if they knew anyone to ask. The second told me that all of the cleanup jobs were paid positions hired by BP and I’d have to apply for one if I wanted to help. Wtf?!!! No wonder there are maybe tens or hundreds of thousands of dying birds/fish/animals etc and maybe tens or dozens of people working to save them.
Anyhoo, they took my info and said if I was interested in helping out around an office they would give me a call. I said “sure, do it”, but its been days and they seem to have blown me off.
Idiots rule.

How unbelievably sad.
I read an article from a few days ago that said there are 20,000 people there now (total) working on the clean-up and volunteers are getting turned down flat unless they have “special expertise.”
It’s a truly horrific thing that has happened. Thank you for trying.
now i’ve got that damned song in my head. The only good thing Flea ever did. except Suburbia.
So infuriating….I say we just all fly down with our bottles of Dawn and start doing our own cleanup. It’s everyone’s planet, right? *sigh*
Not sure if this will help you or not since you’re already down there, but you might try http://www.lagulfresponse.org/. Apparently you can sign up to volunteer through this site. Good luck!
Courtney,
who as an artist would share his thoughts and experiences like you ? You seem so close , we are lucky , very.
They are idiots , the world goes mad, it is not new, but this photo and the absurd situation you have to stand is desperating.
Why do we need so much your music and art and love , no wonder. You make the all world beautiful.
Not easy to find the right words in english.
Love you so much.
Hope your holidays are great and you enjoy and rest.
Je vous aime et je n attends que votre venue, bientot en Europe!

For years I have been trying to figure out why idiots rule the world . Then a friend of mine put it very simply- There are a lot more of them than there are of us. Sad, but I guess it makes sense.
Idiots and multi-national companies rule the world. Wildlife, conservation and looking after this beautiful world of ours is more important than anything else, and arguably and controversially…even more important than our own selfish human issues like war famine and injustice. It’s that Avatar story all over again. Idiots and big greedy companies will destroy the world.
Still, England V USA tomorrow in the footie world cup…come on you 3 lions !
man, you’re awesome! It’s pretty amazing to know that a cool person like you takes time to have such a nice and beautiful attitude. I just feel sorry for all the dying animal that need help and wont get it because people are stupid.
Silly people in a silly world,!
Idiot’s rule not ok!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Yeah, Courtney, that’s pretty coo that you are willing to get down and dirty to assistl. But since you made the effort to go all the way down there, DON’T EVEN GIVE UP. Keep hustlin’ and you will find a way to help. I am sure the locals’ frustration is paramount. What BP has done borders on the criminal.

I live on the Gold Coast, Australia. We’ve got Pelicans, beautiful animals that look to big and clumsy to fly but once they’re airborne as graceful as you can imagine. The sight of them struggling in oil and the appaling death that awaits them does make this grown man cry. Like many people around the world I looked on in disbelief at the aftermath of Katrina when f* all seemed to be done to help the people of New Orleans but this is something else. BP don’t seem to have a clue but they keep letting them dick around with it. You try to volunteer and look what happens, this is so so bad.

I hear you Martin Harbour. That picture above makes me feel sick.

Being born and raised in New Orleans, this is yet another knife in my heart that twists everyday when I turn on the news. And the rescue/help effort is indeed so elusive.
I think it is so wonderful that Courtney is trying to help. I wanted to thank the person who posted this website : http://www.lagulfresponse.org/. I am doing some research myself, on how to help, and contacting the Audubon Institute, regarding helping the wildlife. I’ll give updates on my findings.

Just wanted to say that its seventy days and the Lunatics are still in charge of the Asylum. According to our Australian news a big storm is brewing off the coast, fingers crossed it won’t be too bad. We’re still getting the same pictures so nothing appears to be changing. A corporation seems to have the same rights as an individual but with none of the responsibilities, worse than bad.
