The Atlantis Code
Airplane reading again.
This is a standard “ancient mystery threatens world domination” plot. The cover sports a lot of “Da Vinci Code” references. Oh gee is that cuz of maybe the name?
Well anyway, Dan Brown is a sappy clod when it comes to women characters. And now that I think about, pretty much all characters in general, whereas this guy like to put a SIG Sauer 9mm semiautomatic blah blah in each of her hands. Personally, I prefer that kinda thing in my actiontrash women.
The main character is a linguist so the ancient mystery requires a full fuxton of interesting factoids about the history of language and culture. I like that kinda thing too.
If you read this kinda thing I highly recommend this one.
I picked it up in a Mobile Alabama grocery store so probably it can be found anywhere.

Your Turn
So I’ve been very interested in turn signals lately. Did you know that many vehicles made today roll right off the assembly line without them?
Big pick-up trucks for example. No turn signals. Now this seems fairly sensible because being a fifth generation native Oregonian I know quite a few big pick-up truck drivers and not a one of them would use a turn signal if they had ’em.
Lexus doesn’t have them either.
And Mercedes, you may have noticed, quit putting in turn signals around the mid-eighties. They didn’t drop their prices, though.
BMW is a tricky one because it seems that they have special turn signals which don’t come on until a turn or lane change has already started. That must be part of why they cost a little more.
Well that’s all the research I’ve done so far but I’ll be doing a lot of driving on my vacation to the south next week so if I discover any new datum on this rather confusing issue I will surely let all y’all know right away.

An Inauspicious Eviction
Check out this weird day we had at Red Rocks. We got kicked out for having a bbq. The only other band to ever get kicked out of Red Rocks was……yup, the Brian Jonestown Massacre. Anton spat on a security creep who was beating up some poor kid the year before us and so they got evicted. The venue is neato but they get the lowest sort of scum to be “security” (I use the term loosely) so hours after helping our crew load in our gear (and bbqs), one of them has a tantrum and gets the Denver Police to throw us out! WTF?
This is how much of the world works, so whatever.

Raise High The Roof Beam
Well it ain’t Catcher in the Rye, but really, any story told by this guy is a pretty fun ride.
This is yer basic JD’s zany east coast family and its (now a universal standard) zany east coast family hijinks. Just like movies with the kid from Rushmore. I dig all of them pretty well but Salinger has something beyond. Or deeper. I can’t tell. Prolly it just comes down to the fact that Salinger has one of the greatest voices in the history of written language.
Anyway, these are both short so pick it up if you see a copy.

Here’s an interesting person whom I’d never heard of before recently. Emma Goldman. Thought you might dig on her tendency toward saying these kinds of things:
“Here, then, are my answers: I do not believe in God, because I believe in man. Whatever his mistakes, man has for thousands of years past been working to undo the botched job your God has made.
As to killing rulers, it depends entirely on the position of the ruler. If it is the Russian Czar, I most certainly believe in dispatching him to where he belongs. If the ruler is as ineffectual as an American President, it is hardly worth the effort. There are, however, some potentates I would kill by any and all means at my disposal. They are Ignorance, Superstition, and Bigotry — the most sinister and tyrannical rulers on earth.”
What a rebel. It seems that she also may have coined the phrase “free love” sometime around the turn of the century. I haven’t read her whole wiki, but in a couple of the things I’ve read of her she was defending that phrase as though it were her own.
Damn interesting lady.
