Odditorium Photo Of The Day: 22 May 2009

TUDOR ROOM. This is a beehive Courtney impulse-bought from a thrift shop. Not only does it frighten children, we always have fresh honey. Mmm, baklava.

It’s an all-new Zia. Her weekly radio show, Wednesdays at 1pm Pacific on W + K Radio, is now called “A to Zia” and will feature themes starting with a letter of the alphabet. Tune it at the W + K site, on your own media player, or below in the embedded deal.

Our three hour dinner party soundtrack is progressing surprisingly well. After quickly learning to remove any “undigestive” sounds, putting our loops and keyboard jams into a sensible evenings order has been fairly simple so far. Minimalism being the key to subtlety here.

By the way, we regret now terribly not setting a camera up during those jam days but we’re going to at our next practices. We’ll post them somehow. Even if they’re not interesting.

A lot of people (no one) write, “hey Gothman, it seems to me — the untrained ignorant eye of unabashed, unblinking reason — like you people don’t really do anything there at the Odditorium. Y’alls’re just distracting The Dandy Warhols from making new music.” First off, Imaginary Complaint Provocateur, I have to tell you that it’s HIGHLY offensive to be referred to as “you people”. It’s 2009, not 1956. Come on, dude. Second, we would not classify the following expletive-laden cartoons as distracting in ANY way:

by Scott “Poopie and/or National Hero” Simons, our lighting and nightlife director.

by Gothman, the dude writing this needlessly sarcastic post, coffee drinker.
If you think that sitting around making up, and laughing at, cartoons like these keep us, and the rest of The Dandy Warhols gang, from the important business of curing the world’s ills with NEW Dandy Warhols musical entertainment, then sir, I think I do not think that I want to have much to do with you.

The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance (1962) Directed by John Ford No matter how much high school stage performance is going on here, I could watch Lee Marvin, John Wayne and Jimmy Stewart for another six to eight hours easy. |

From what I’ve read so far, there’s nothing here quite as clever or alluring as the title.

A lot of trivium of varying kinds. Can’t even remember one.
This, on the other hand, is very clever and insightful, but with a not as clever as it wants to be title.

It’s a rant that is half anecdotes from growing up to become a pez dispenser and half bits of wisdom for dealing with what she thinks are her unique problems. They’re actually very normal problem but often with famous names attached to the anecdotes. Quick read. Great for travel.

Hey, this is pretty cool: we’re going to be playing at the fourth annual Marijuana Policy Project party at the Playboy Mansion on June 4th.
Go ahead and read that sentence again.
This is an annual deal with these cats who do so much to help change the ridiculous policies our government has regarding marijuana, and we’re totally stoked to have been asked to take part in this year’s shindig. This year’s party is hosted by actress Fairuza Balk, and will also feature DJs from Honeypot, and our friend David J from Bauhaus/Love and Rockets. Also, there will probably be girls there, because, you know, it’s the Playboy Mansion.
Now tickets for this party are pretty spendy, but if you’ve got the dough, they are available [HERE] . If you can’t make it to the Mansion, join us the following night in Pomona at The Glass House for an old-fashioned all-ages Dandy Warhol whoop-ti-doo. Tickets are still available for Pomona [HERE] .
Hope to see you there.
